If you are approved for disability insurance benefits (“DIB”), then you will be eligible for Medicare two years after that date you became entitled to benefits. Generally speaking that means the date that you became disabled plus 6 months.
Solving Excess Resources Problems with a Special Needs Trust – SSI and Medicaid
If you have too much resources to be eligible for SSI or Medicaid, you might be able to establish a special needs trust to help you to be financially eligible for these benefits. For instance if you are going to inherit some money, your inheritance could be put into a special needs trust that is administered by another person on your behalf. Because you do not have control over this money it is not counted as part of your resources. If you have excess resources, you should consult with an attorney to see if a special needs trust would help you. You would need to the help of an attorney to set one up.
