I think that you certainly need to pursue a disability claim, and that you have a shot at it.

If you are denied, be sure to appeal and hire an attorney.

Working while you file sometimes makes it harder to win, but if you are unsucessful it can actually tend to prove disability. You should consult with a local attorney to be positive about how it would affect your claim. Often it will give you the money to get the treatment you need, and the tests necessary to prove your case.

Hello,
I am 34 years old. And have not worked in 8 years. About 1 year and 6 months ago I was diagnosed with MS. I have had my left side of my body tingling for 4 years and then woke up one day with my right eye losing vision. After a brian MRI, my neurologist found liaisons on my brain. Now I inject every day (30% effective) to prevent further attacks.

If you looked at me and met me, I look fine. Even My wife feels that I should look for a job since we need the money so badly. I tell her that I could file for disability and get Medicare since my monthly premium is so high at $260 a month. I have tried looking for a job before with MS and answered truthfully on the applications letting the employer know about my disease. What do you think I should do? I am a bit concerned I will not be able to give my all to any employer with this disability. Thank you for your advice.

Since then I have realized why I have been so tired at times and why my back hurts on and off. I suffer from phantom pains daily, where pain (knee collapses, sharp glass feeling in toes) hits me for a few seconds and disappear. I am unable to sit for long periods of time or stand for long periods of time. During sleep, my left arm goes severely numb to the point that I awake. My right eye also has some permanent damage from the vision episode. Places with fluorescent light and the sun light are not good for me eyes.

Q. What do you think I should do?

A. It is hard for me to answer this question, and I am tempted to refuse to answer for fear of misleading you. Only read further if you agree to sit down and talk with an attorney soon:

If your wife's income is high enough, you might not qualify for SSI. If you cannot show that you became disabled years ago, you might not qualify for Social Security disability. I guess make a pile of your medical records, get your wife's income records, and sit down with a good attorney. If you can work, it will take 5 years of earnings to requalify. I see your email name is auctionathome. Have you been working part time? If so, declare all your earnings, even if you have to amend tax returns and pay penalties, to get to the 5 years. If you can get a job with long term disability benefits, that would give you protection. If you are not in too bad a shape, education might make you employable. I have the uneasy feeling that none of this might work. But you must work hard on each decent chance anyway. Do not just sit at home watching television and worrying.

I am almost certain that I have not given you every idea that might help. Sit down and talk to an experienced attorney. If you live in the Carolinas, call me and we will puzzle over your situation more. Take care and good luck.

I am 43 year old female and was diagnosed with MS a year ago. I am in an executive level job with the same company for over 6 years and have a fantastic income. Problem is, I have now begun having eyesight problems, and numbness in my right hand. I can no longer see my computer well, write legibly, and typing is very slow. My ability to navigate thru spreadsheets is harder and harder. My cognitive thinking is negatively affected and I sometimes have problems formulating words, so public speaking has stopped. And my short term memory? Horrible. I'm afraid I will get fired if I can no longer perform in my current capacity. My employer does have a good long term disability plan. When is the right time to try to put in a claim? I don't want to wait too long and get fired because I can no longer perform my job. I need advice. Thank you.

Hi! I have had MS for 2 years now and I am drawing LTD from my job! My MS doctor says all my problems are not from MS And he sent me to a arrhritis doctor and he DX me with fibromalgia. I also have degenertive disk diease. My question is I have cervical disk repaired on c-4c5c6&c7, whick was a wc in Jan of 2003, IIn december of 2003 I started having vision problems and my whole left side went numb. Could the cervical disk operation caused the ms and fibromalgia. I never had any problems before.I have a mylogram in 2005 that showed the a nerve is compressed by the c-7 disk.
